The Recovery of Lewis

Lewis was found in Uganda.  He came to us by other people in Uganda.  He had a deformity in his back caused by a virus when he was  very young.  It was obvious to the African Childrens Charities (ACC) staff that Lewis needed more medical care than Uganda could provide.

In the United States, ACC began a series if fund raisers to help get Lewis to the US for additional medical services.  In May of 2014, Lewis arrived in Tucson Arizona.  He was evaluated by the Staff at University Medical Center (UMC, now Banner Medical Center).  Back surgery was his only hope to correct his condition. This was eventually performed by UMC as a charity case.

Since then, Lewis has been recovering here in the Tucson Arizona.  His health has been monitored very closely.  In the Spring of 2016 he was diagnosed with hearing loss.  He currently is using a hearing aid.  In the summer of 2016 a lump was found on his back.  Eventually one of the original surgeons was contacted (now in Phoenix Arizona) and was seen by the surgeon.   It does not look good and we believe he will need additional surgery.   We have recently begun trying to get other assistance for Lewis's continuing care.  Shriner's Hospital (https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/) in Los Angles performed the second surgery on Lewis.  He is now recovering from that surgery back in Tucson, Az.
